Campfire, have fun but be safe
The campfire is the highlight of camping. The mesmerizing view of the open flame, the sound of the wood crackling, and the smoke smell lingering days later on your clothes and in your hair, yes there is nothing like the Campfire.
Fire safety is one of the most important faucets of enjoying a campfire. Nothing kills the mood faster than someone getting hurt from the fire, especially a child.
Somethings to keep in mind BEFORE enjoying a campfire are the following:
*What size of fire is allowed by local laws. Nobody wants the added expense of the price of a fine.
*Child safety. Will there be children around the campfire? If so, do they understand the rules of playing around fire? Do they understand the consequences of playing too close to the fire? When it comes to child safety with fire, you can never be too safe.
*What kind of wood will you be using.
*What will you use to contain the fire- i.e- River Stones...
*Is your wood dry?
These are all good things to think about before getting started with your campfire. There are wind resistant camping lighters that are perfect for starting campfires. (make sure you check out the camping checklist, free to print FREE printable Camping Checklist)
You will also want to be aware when you head off to bed that your fire is completely out. Fire spreads very easy especially in heavily wooded areas where the fire could smolder in tree falling's.
There is more to do around a campfire than just sit there (unless thats your style).
You can: Sing campfire songs, tell scary stories, tell stories of your favorite childhood camping trips, roast marshmallows, Take turns reading funny stories from books and gaze at the stars.
When done right, Campfires are by far the highlight of camping. Remember to follow safety rules and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of being camping.
